Whether you are a seasoned pro or serious emerging talent, plan on being challenged and advancing your learning process by months, if not years!
Day 1-We will meet in Mexican Hat, Utah Monday evening for hors d'oeuvres and introductions.
Day 2-Tuesday A.M., we will hit the Monument Valley dirt roads as Kevin takes you to his favorite location to shoot a Monument Valley sunrise. During the flat light part of the day Kevin wil teach everyone some of his favorite and unique darkroom techniques. The rest of the day students will be free to spend time with your spouses or explore locations you might want to shoot on your own. In the evening we will all meetup to shoot some great light painting with the Milky Way above. Night sky photography is not as hard as it looks, but is easily screwed up. Kevin will help you with your success.
Day 3-Wednesday morning all will head out to find and shoot their own sunrise shot. Fridays flat light will combine scheduled one on one time with Kevin and students scouting their personal sunset shots and then personal lightpainting combined with night sky illuminations.
Day 4-Thursday morning will start with breakfast together and a brief Q&A session. Then we all hit the road for the 3 hour trip to Moab/Arches National Park. After checking in and a short rest, we will all head to Arches NP for some free shooting and a Demo on timelapse photography. After the demo all will be free to shoot and apply what they have learned or simply send some time with your spouses. workshop.
Day 5-Friday all will head out to shoot at dawn, sunrise, sunset, dusk and night. We will spend the day at HQ working together on your images and working through road blocks...we all hit them.
Day 6-Saturday Morning all head out to enjoy another shooting demo by Kevin Vandivier. Afterwards all will be sent out to shoot assignments for the rest of the day. Saturday night will be our formal and last dinner together. We will enjoy each others photos and many toast will be raised.
Day 7-Sunday morning will be our last outing to Arches NP. After breakfast will be what is really the power of this expedition, open critiques from the staff. Saturday night will finish with a final Gallery Print show, open to the public. There the best of show will be announced and very nice prizes will be given out. We will then go our seperate ways creatively bonded together as a band of brothers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
Besides a true desire to learn, you will need at least one digital SLR, a 20mm wide angle or a wide angle zoom that was 20mm in its range, a fast 50mm (1.8 minimum), a telephoto or telephoto zoom, at least one smart flash, one small portable stand with flash mount, 1-2 million power flashlight, a wireless shutter trigger and a tripod. You will also need to bring your laptop with Photoshop loaded on the machine. If this is a problem don’t freak out and decide not to take the workshop or go out and buy a bunch of stuff you may not want to buy. Call us and we will work something out.
