Volcanic Hawaii Photo Expedition
Very few people have experience the incredible awe of photographing an active volcano up-close. Most can only imagine what it is like to hear the roars and hisses of a volcano while taking unbelievable pictures. Award-winning magazine photographer and former Photo Editor of Texas Highways Magazine Kevin Vandivier will lead a small group of adventurous photographers photographing the volcanoes of the Big Island, Hawaii. Kevin will also teach you some of his favorite master techniques for photographing wild landscapes. This 5 day workshop will change your life!
WHAT TO EXPECT
We’ll schedule plenty of time for early morning and late afternoon opportunities to photograph lava flows and eruptions along with wildlife, flowers, waterfalls and the diverse Hawaiian landscapes in the “golden hour” light. During the day, projection sessions will occur with your instructor Kevin Vandivier who will go through your work, providing invaluable insight and suggestions on how to improve your photographic capabilities.
Plan on arriving in Kialua-Kona, on the Western Shore of Hawaii, Wednesday afternoon in time for our opening night cocktail party, where you’ll meet (or reacquaint yourself) with Kevin and Leslie.
Thursday we’ll be getting out early to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian sunrise from the summit of Volcano Mauna Kea! We’ll come back to the workshop headquarters to download and review the morning’s shoot, during which you’ll receive feedback on your work from our instructor. Afternoon will find us back out for shooting an incredible vista, coming back after dark.
Friday and Saturday will be a repeat of Thursday, to allow plenty of photographic opportunities in this magical Island light.
The workshop concludes Sunday morning with a presentation of the student’s work.
